We had a lovely surprise when we arrived at the farm this week – the Unicorn Barn had been turned into a Santa’s grotto! The children gasped as they found it and couldn’t wait to get cosy under the tree. As the children at The Nursery are so wonderful they had been set the task of making Christmas decorations ready for the Farm School Christmas party. The children found card, glitter, glue, mark-making tools and scissors and decided to make some paper chains. They all managed to use the scissors safely and with control to cut the card they had decorated. They manipulated the strips to make circles and friends worked together to help stick it together. Great job Pre-school!
We took a walk to the cow shed and our first stop was at the new born baby cows. The children remembered the word ‘calf’ and they counted how many were there. They had the opportunity to touch the cows and they helped put the clean, dry straw down for their beds. We then went to see Billy the Bull, who is the daddy of all the calves, and then went to see the mummies.
On the way back the children had great fun jumping in muddy puddles and making comparisons about which puddle was the biggest and deepest. Some of them nearly reached the top of our welly boots! After a quick pit-stop to sit in one of the farms tractors, we made our way back to enjoy a yummy picnic lunch by the fire.
Another successful Farm School day had by all!
