Food & nutrition

From weaning to feasting, our meals appeal to all appetites at The Nursery. Our food is freshly prepared daily in our kitchen, with ingredients sourced locally wherever possible. We buy all our meat from The Butchers Block, just a few doors down from us on Portishead High Street, and our fresh fruit and vegetables are delivered to us from Chew Valley in the heart of Somerset, using British produce wherever possible.

We believe young children should have every day, well-balanced meals that will provide the goodness they require for healthy growth and mental development, giving them the best possible start in life.

We select organic ingredients and offer a wide variety of different flavours, textures and cuisines to help children develop a healthy and varied approach to food. All our meals are cooked without salt, artificial additives, flavours or preservatives – and we encourage children to be adventurous by offering meals such as mildly spiced Thai chicken curry, Caribbean stewed chicken and Moroccan lamb tagine with couscous.

Children are encouraged to try new foods and eat the meals provided as they watch their peers doing the same – many parents are surprised by just how adventurous their littles ones can be!

We cater for all dietary requirements, including dairy-free, gluten-free, soya-free and tomato-free diets, offering imaginative and creative alternatives for anyone who needs them.

We serve breakfast, lunch and tea daily, with fresh, healthy snacks twice a day to keep our children nourished and energised. Our menus change with the seasons and are carefully coordinated to provide wholesome, nutritionally balanced diets for our tiny diners.
