Children at The Nursery marked Earth Day by taking part in a plastics clean-up at the town’s marina.

We talked, in very simple terms, about plastic pollution and the importance of protecting our oceans and waterways. Then throughout the day small groups of children took turns to pick up any plastic bottles that had been discarded around the quay and placed them in the purpose built Green Seas Trust bin, which is made of recycled plastic.

The Green Seas Trust awarded Portishead the special bin, which is both symbolic and practical in reducing plastic pollution, in 2021. Its iconic design was created to help people make the connection between litter thrown in waterways or left on beaches and the harmful effect this has on marine life and human health.
