Last week we marked National Smile Month by getting to know our neighbours. Principal dentist Dr Karim Abdel-Khalek and practice manager and dental nurse, Hannah Martin, from Combe Road Dental Practice next door to The Nursery, popped in to talk to the children about taking good care of their teeth.
The children engaged in interactive discussions about the importance of brushing teeth twice a day, they also took part in a game which explored eating healthy foods and talked about the important of visiting the dentist regularly. Everyone had lots of fun looking at a variety of toothbrushes and the children took turns to brush over-sized model teeth which the dentist had brought along.
At The Nursery we feel it’s important to make sure the children learn about oral health and see dentists in a positive and engaging way. They had great fun practising their smiles and learning about what kinds of foods are better for their teeth than others.
After the visit the children walked to the practice next door to see where Karim and Hannah work.
Following their visit, Karim said: “Helping to instil good dental habits from a young age sets the foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles and so we were delighted to visit The Nursery during National Smile Month and talk to the children about how regular visits to the dentist is a way of ensuring they maintain strong and healthy teeth.”
National Smile Month, which this year runs from 13th May to 13th June, is organised by the Oral Health Foundation and is a charity campaign aimed at championing the benefits of having good oral health and promoting the value of a healthy smile.
